durante un viaggio che paul klee fece in tunisia per due settimane insieme a louis moilliet e august macke ad agosto 1914 , klee e moilliet hanno trascorso il fine settimana di pasqua a st . germain vicino a tunisi . la sera della domenica di pasqua , Klee ha scritto nel suo diario : “ La serata è indescrivibile . E per finire tutto , there’s una luna piena che sorge . Louis mi spinge : Dovrei dipingerlo . Dico : It’ll essere un esercizio nella migliore delle ipotesi . naturalmente fallisco vis-à-vis natura . Ma I’ve imparato qualcosa . Conosco la via dal mio fallimento alla natura . Questa è una faccenda personale per i prossimi anni . ” In queste parole , come nell'esempio dell'acquerello , l'arte sembra essere qualcosa di indipendente , per cui è un modello naturale , però , necessario : Case , il mare e la luna sono ridotti alle loro forme base e più accennati che raffigurati . ci sono anche campi che sembrano solo forme astratte se non si è consapevoli di ciò che klee stava guardando . È in questo stato sospeso tra astrazione e figurazione – e naturalmente anche nella sottile armonia di colori nella rappresentazione – che sta la qualità speciale di questo lavoro .
